Love

What good is the science of psychology if we can’t put it into practice? Once upon a time, we couldn’t cure a common cold… now, it’s common knowledge. Why? Because we love humanity enough to have created entire fields dedicated to improving the quality of life for all of it. What good is positive psychology or any other type of the study of life if not for the people out of a sense of protection, love, worth, value, and…. values in action?

Education is the kindling of the flame, not the filling of the vessel. ~ Socrates

To love and be loved

It is from love that this journey of clarity replaces the negative, toxic thoughts of humankind. We all want to love and be loved. Not only in a romantic way for some, but in a platonic way, a societal way, a community way. We want others to accept us ‘as is’. We don’t always extend our capability of knowledge toward the vast, sometimes overwhelming task of loving something in others, even if we perceive those others as a threat to our very ideals or core values.

To heal

Love, however, is what heals us all. It is extremely emotionally, sometimes, mentally terrifying to know that there are others out there who will do anything to ruin what we spend so much time creating. That is true of our work, our relationships, our religions, our fame…. in some cases.

Each of us wants to be heard. We want to be that voice celebrated on the great podium of life. Some of us crave celebrity, while others? They simply wish to breath fresh air and feel the taste of free will on their lips as they speak their own truths.

To thine own self be true. Do no harm. Lead with love and we will have self love. A healing notion unto itself.

In the here and now

That is why we are here. Not to jockey for position of power, though certainly, that is a human notion that goes back toward…. well, Socrates, Aristotle, Plato…. our original “positive psychologists” and voices of reason.

In the here and now however? We have the task, perhaps obligation, to hold each other up, support the love of learning as a healing force in our society. We have the duty to ourselves to feel love, in all its truths, as a dedication to moving our purpose of educating the masses forward.

Lead with love

:Be it theory, research or practical applications, those of us in the positive psychology business are not here for the same reasons, but to me, it is clear that we have the same foundation upon which to build a house of health, healing and love.

There’s a morality code. An ethical code. Do not lie. Do not cheat. Do not steal other people’s public works (blogs, books, research, or desire to be heard and valued). Do promote the great works of others, no matter how small a whisper they speak to the winds of learning. Lead with love.
